LEGAL AID CLINIC VOLUNTEER
Provide vital guidance to people in our community facing legal challenges. You will impact the lives of low-income populations by sharing your legal knowledge and expertise in a variety of legal areas.
Supervising Staff:
• Jessica Elliot-Pomerenke, Program Manager of Supportive Services
Time Commitment:
• This is an ongoing (6+ months), weekly commitment
• One Wednesday per month: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Escondido office)
Key Responsibilities:
• Meet clients and provide them with information, education, and referrals regarding legal matters such as tenancy issues/fair housing; family law; criminal law; general law. Important: You will not represent or advise clients.
• Maintain accurate file notes and ensure the highest standards of client confidentiality at all times.
Training and Support:
• Volunteer Services provides general orientation on services and programs provided by Interfaith Community Services.
• Ongoing oversight from supervising staff to provide support.
• HIPAA; Mandated Reporter; Federal and State False Claims training.
• Program oversight by Legal Aid Society of San Diego
Qualifications:
• Must be an attorney in good standing (practicing; semi-retired; retired).
• Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to easily work with a diverse population.
• Demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and empathy when working with clients and visitors.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including vocabulary, grammar and spelling in English.
• Ability to establish quick rapport with clients and interpreters.
• Absolute solid values: honest, loyal, hardworking, and sincere.
Screening Requirements:
• FBI / DOJ Background check
