Overview: An intake volunteer is essential to the service Interfaith offers to people in the community. With empathy and resourcefulness, an intake volunteer will provide intake, assessment, and referrals for people experiencing homelessness and/or individuals seeking assistance, in order to assist clients towards their goals of self-sufficiency.
Supervising Staff: Jessica Elliott-Pomerenke, Program Manager of Supportive Services
Time Commitment:
• This is an on-going (6+ months), weekly commitment
• One day per week (day may vary depending on availability)
• 8:30 am to 12:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct service to clients including assessment, referrals, and crisis intervention
• Provide guidance and support to help clients identify their own strengths and resources
• Work with a client advocate and case managers to ensure all client needs are met
• Identify resources and advocate for clients’ needs
• Link and connect clients to internal and external resources and agencies
• Attend and participate in mandatory training sessions and stay up to date on current policy and procedures
• Maintain accurate and complete file notes and ensure the highest standards of client confidentiality at all times
• Input results from daily client registrations, assessments, and services delivered into appropriate data bases
• Assume other duties as delegated by Program Manager
Training and Support:
• General orientation on services and programs provided by supervising Program Manager
• Ongoing oversight from Program Manager to provide direction, training and feedback on specific program and department activities, procedures, priorities, performance, and agency updates.
• Detailed policy and procedures on steps needed to ensure accurate services are provided
• False Claims guidelines.
• HIPAA guidelines.
• Mandated Reporter training.
Qualifications:
• Experience in social services or relevant field preferred.
• Must clear criminal background check
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including vocabulary, grammar and spelling.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to easily work with a diverse population.
• Ability to establish quick rapport with clients

• Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision, and as an integral team member.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, competing tasks and requests.
• Enthusiastic with a willingness to learn.
• Able to lift up to 20 lbs. and bend or kneel to reach lower shelving (accommodations made for those who cannot lift).
• Demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and empathy when working with clients and visitors, especially within the community experiencing metal illness and/or substance abuse. Possesses strong attention to detail
