Transitional Youth Academy
Transitional Youth Academy
Established in 2008 through a unique partnership with Oceanside High School, Interfaith Community Services’ Transitional Youth Academy (TYA) supports low-income and vulnerable Oceanside students by empowering youth and supporting their families to prevent future homelessness by focusing on education, workforce development, and character development. Â
Â
TYA serves low-income youth between the ages of 14 to 18 who are at risk of dropping out of high school due to poor academic standing, poor attendance, or behavioral issues; have exited the juvenile or adult criminal justice systems; are currently or formerly in foster care; are homeless or are pregnant and/or parenting. Â
Experienced TYA staff members are available on both the Oceanside High School and El Camino High School campuses to support students throughout the academic school day. TYA engages and motivates students by hosting weekly leadership lunch sessions that feature inspiring guest speakers. In the summer months, staff continue to mentor students and provide employment development training as students complete paid internships in high growth STEM-related industries. Â
